Niknaz (Niki) Soghrati

Life is a journey without a roadmap, and we are all learning to navigate it in our own unique ways. I believe everyone is the expert in their own lives and my goal is to work with children, adolescents, and adults in accessing their inner power and strengths as they navigate challenges. I am passionate about getting to know people and feel privileged to be a part of their journey.

Education and Training

I completed a Master of Social Work at the University of Toronto’s Factor-Inwentash School of Social Work and have a background in education, psychology, and sociology. I have been a post-secondary instructor for the past 5 years where I have had the opportunity to expand my facilitation, advocacy, and effective communication skills. My current practice is informed by a holistic understanding of how our reality is experienced through our connection to self and to others.

Theoretical Approach

My therapeutic approach incorporates anti-oppressive, client-centered, and strengths-based practices. I value intention, inclusion, and integrity and aim to bring these values into my work with clients. My experiences include individual and group therapy; mood and behaviour management; enhancing self-perception and self-worth; building interpersonal relationships; and navigating loss and trauma.

If you are experiencing challenges in your personal and/or professional life and feel ready to take the next steps in your journey of emotional health, please reach out! I look forward to connecting with you and seeing if together, we can create a therapeutic alliance in support of your goals.

Personal Background

I was born in Iran and immigrated to Canada at the age of 11 with my family. I am a daughter; a sister; a friend; a painter; a learner; an avid reader; sometimes restless; often curious; and, above all, a human being!

Since my adolescent years, I have held a deep curiosity and passion for understanding people and their unique circumstances. I completed my first Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at York University – where I focused on building a social network more than academic success. This was followed by a Social Service Worker Diploma, another B.A. in Sociology from York University, and a Master of Education degree from OISE focused on children’s developmental psychology and education. My path in life has not been straight forward. There have been many successes, failures, setbacks, losses, and celebrations – all of which have expanded my capacity for seeing people’s individuality as they continue to explore their path forward!
